Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson stated he barely escaped a potentially deadly incident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when a pair of track officials ran across the track right in his path

The concerning event occurred on the third circuit when marshals were seen on the racing surface as Lawson was getting back on the race following an premature pit stop to swap his compromised front wing

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Moments later, the team's competitor Lawson communicated to his race engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Could you believe what happened? I could have... killed them"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was witnessing"

"I exited on a brand new hard tyres, and then I approached Turn One and there were just two dudes sprinting across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Clearly there's been a failure in communication somewhere but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a live track marshals can be allowed to just sprint across the track like that. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm confident we'll get some kind of clarification, but it really can't happen again"

Formal Inquiry in Progress

The sport's regulatory authority, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is currently investigating the circumstances

"After an occurrence at turn one, track officials was advised that fragments were located on the track at the apex of that corner" declared the regulatory authority

"On lap three, track officials were notified and made ready to go onto the racing surface and recover the debris once every vehicle had gone by"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had entered the pits, the instructions to dispatch personnel were canceled and a safety warning flag was raised in that section"

"Our inquiry continues what happened after that point"
