Heroic Train Staff Member Endures Life-Threatening Wounds Amid Mass Knife Incident on Express Train

A courageous train employee who intervened to save passengers during a mass knife attack on a express train has sustained life-threatening wounds, police confirmed on Sunday.

Details of the Frightening Incident

Surveillance footage allegedly shows the staff member attempting to halt the assailant as the train traveled between a city and another station in the county. Witnesses described a terrifying 14-minute duration after the train left Peterborough, with bloodied victims running through compartments.

The individual, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, is in custody for questioning. Authorities declared a major event on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.

Emergency Response and Aftermath

The incident on Saturday night resulted in 11 people being treated in medical facilities after the train made an unplanned stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Five individuals have since been discharged from hospital.

A witness filmed the suspect brandishing a big knife and being subdued with a stun device as he confronted officers on the platform. He was allegedly heard yelling, "Kill me, kill me."

“This terrible incident has affected many people. My thoughts and those of everyone in British Transport Police are with those injured and their families – particularly the courageous employee of train personnel whose relatives are being assisted by specialist officers,” stated a high-ranking law enforcement officer.

Labor Reaction and Calls for Action

Rail associations were swift to commend staff and call for increased action. One labor official said he would be “seeking immediate discussions with authorities, train companies and law enforcement to guarantee that we have the best available assistance, tools and robust procedures in operation”.

Another union representative encouraged the train operator and government “to move quickly to examine safety, to support the affected employees, and to ensure nothing like this happens again”.

Driver Commended for Quick Action

The operator who stopped the service at Huntingdon was reported as being “deeply affected” but “good”, and has been commended by association officials for doing “precisely what was needed”.

“He didn’t halt the train in the center of two stations where it’s clearly challenging for the emergency services to reach, but he continued traveling until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the response was pretty much already there,” explained a association representative.

Further Information

Authorities stated they got the initial emergency reports at 7:39 pm, and the train was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One observer recounted at first wondering if the event was a holiday joke, but soon understood from individuals' expressions that it was real.

Authorities have confirmed there is no evidence to indicate the event was a terror-related incident and have asked the public to come forward with any further information.

Train operations on the impacted line are expected to have delays until the following day, with passengers advised to postpone their journeys where feasible.

Individuals with details that could assist the inquiry are asked to contact authorities by texting a designated number with a reference code.
